Liz. Art. Italy

This is a 6 part, 50+ minute, documentary shot in the summer of 2015 focusing on three of my loves.

Liz, my wife, on our one year anniversary.
Art as I was an art major.
Italy as its one of my favorite places in the world and a place I have spent a lot of time studying art and culture.

Below is information that I included with each YouTube video. I hope you enjoy the videos.

Venice (Act 1)

^ Part 1: Venice (then and now)

This video is a documentary of two love stories across time in a shared location (Venice). It is a combination of footage shot in 1962 by Bill and Gert Gifford and their grandson Robbie Gross (July 2015 on an iPhone 6). It is set to the song "I Am a River" by the Foo Fighters off their 8th studio album Sonic Highways. I own no rights to this song and I am just trying to create art set to this beautiful music. I will not profit on this and I just want to let the viewer experience Venice across time. It is part 1 of a 6 part documentary of Liz and Robbie's trip to Italy.

There is a fun extra (3 minute) video at the end of this 7 minute music video / documentary.

^ Part 2: Art of Venice

This part of the story is very different then the first. It tells a story of a traveler through some of the best art in Venice. Starting with the 56th Biennale "ALL THE WORLD'S FUTURES" in 2015 (http://www.labiennale.org/it/Home.html). It shows some of my favorite art and video presentations. I try do to minimal editing and show many of the different pavilions.

The story starts with the Giardini and explores Japan, Korea, German, America and many other countries buildings each with their own unique art and story to tell. It is set to the song "Subterranean" by the Foo Fighters off the Sonic Highways album. I have no rights to the song and don't intend to profit from it in anyway.

The second part of this video is about the Arsenale, which is a different section of the Biennale "ALL THE WORLD'S FUTURES". It is set to "In the Clear" by Foo Fighters also on the Sonic Highways album.

The third and final part of this video is about the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and some remaining footage at the end from the Giardini. The song for this part of the video is the Foo Fighters' "Outside" also on the Sonic Highways album.

Florence (Act 2)

^ Part 3: Florence (then and now)

This video is a documentary of two love stories across time in a shared location (Florence). The movie starts with a combination of footage shot in 1962 by Bill and Gert Gifford and their grandson Robbie Gross (July 2015 on an iPhone 6). It then continues with footage (also shot by Robbie) overlooking the entire city from some of Florence's highest points. It also incorporates the location of the dinner of Liz and Robbie's one year wedding anniversary. It is set to the song "What Did I Do? / God as My Witness" by the Foo Fighters off their 8th studio album Sonic Highways. I own no rights to this song and I am just trying to create art set to this beautiful music. I will not profit on this and I just want to let the viewer experience Florence across time. I hope you enjoy this movie.

^ Part 4: Art of Florence

I started the creative process of part 4 by taking photos of the two most famous churches and the two most famous art galleries in Florence. Four places that offer so much art that spans across time but also were centered around the Renaissance time period. I then mixed them to the song Congregation by the Foo Fighters. I used the Ken Burns effect to turn the art work of hundreds of years ago into animations to tell a new story. I don't own the rights to any of this art work or music. This project's goal is to share the beauty of these pieces with the world, so they can enjoy these wonderful masterpieces in a new light.

Here are the locations:
Galleria dell' Accademia
Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore
Galleria degli Uffizi
Basilica di Santa Croce

Music:
Song: "Congregation" | Band: Foo Fighters | Album: Sonic Highways

Rome (Act 3)

^ Part 5: Rome (then and now)

This video is a documentary of two love stories across time in a shared location (Rome). It is a combination of footage shot in 1962 by Bill and Gert Gifford and photos taken by their grandson Robbie Gross (July in 2015 on an iPhone 6). It is set to the song "The Feast and The Famine" by the Foo Fighters off their 8th studio album Sonic Highways. I own no rights to this song and I am just trying to create art set to this beautiful music. I also mix in a bit of their music video, for the same song, in the second half of the video. I will not profit on this and I just want to let the viewer experience Rome across time. It is part 5 of a 6 part documentary of Liz and Robbie's trip to Italy. I like this song because it was written about the capital of the US (my / Dave Grohl's hometown of DC) while showing images from the capital of Italy (from 1962 and 2015).

^ Part 6: Art of Rome

This is the final part of my "Liz. Art. Italy" documentary. Going into the editing part of this project I had 3 different ideas of what I wanted to do. I could not choose between them so I decided to combine all 3 projects into one.

The story starts with trying to find all the different sculptures of Bernini and paintings of Raphael around Rome. We follow the path set out in the movie and book "Angels and Demons" and take you the viewer along for the ride (and see a lot of great art along the way).

For the second part of the story we travel through the Vatican exploring one of the worlds greatest art collections (I believe its the best with its only real rival being the Louvre). We end the story with traveling to the Borghese Gallery. There we see a lot of great works by Bernini and Caravaggio.

All of the footage and pictures are set to the song "Something from Nothing" by the Foo Fighters. It is the first track off the Sonic Highways album.
