There are many different types of videos shown on YouTube, as we already discussed, but on this page I want to explore issues of sexuality and gender roles within the Asian community. The three videos I want to focus on are the “Asian Girls Remix video” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56t9j4dKOOc), “Why Asian Girls Go For White Guys” ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI3lPLsbwjw) and “Why Asian Guys Can’t Get White Girls” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63bWYFGBTuE&feature=related ). All three of these videos bring up an interesting long-standing debate of why Asian girls seem to go after white guys more then Asian men. The first video “Asian Girls Remix video” (click here to see it) is a simple video of just a boy singing about how he loves Asian girls. It is a very cute parody and many people enjoyed it. He does bring up a lot of stereotypes. “They say they are to short, no junk in the trunk…. I don’t care because I prefer a pretty face and a brain”. Even though he is a bad singer, it shows that he is willing to make fun of himself and make a funny song to try and get a girl. At the end he talks about how Asian girls are dating white guys and he says he will even date a half Asian. This brings up how hard it is for Asian men to get Asian women (possibly because Asian men are often portrayed by the media as not being equal to white men). The other two videos “Why Asian Girls Go for White Guys” (click here to see it) and “Why Asian Guys Can’t Get White Girls” (click here to see it) also deal with some of these gender issues. Both of these videos are very funny but still bring up some serious issues of why people believe Asian women go after white guys.
Now, even though these are funny and interesting looks into why people in the Asian community date in certain ways, people still find time to bash them in the comments below the video. TerrorD1982 started it off by having these racist comments “No it's just funny. It's because extreme Korean nationalists are just idiots. They don't even have anything to be proud of it's just a down syndrome country that has a habit of being conquered. And then they make up crack pot theories. And I'm saying is as fact most K pride idiots are no different from Scientologist crazies. I may be a dick but hey i state the truth." And then synergymaster in response said this (I apologize for the language), “OK, people listen up. These cock suckers (TerrorD1982, AnthropologistDave, flexyjeff, etc) with many different IDs are the same cock sucker who wants to give Asian a hiarchical order. They are actually the highschool dropout flea infested bucktooth inbred trailer rats who stalks me around to convince me what my cock taste like. They know how to trick 2.0 billion brainless Chinks. They are here to make you feel inferior.” TerrorD1982 also had this to say, “ I have told you a zillion times that your own country's record states that most marriages with foreigners aren't with whites and only 12 percent of K women in inter ethnic relationships marry whties. Hahaha it's just like a Gook to state against PROVEN fact. If you want to say your crack pot theories Chok ong dik you better have real solid undisputable evidence to back it up. But hey you're gook you just get mad and face plant yourself and making your face a 180 degree plain.” This shows me that even a relatively simple and funny movie can somehow bring up this horrible slander on the site. YouTube does nothing to really try and stop this either. You can report it and it might get erased, but who is to stop more people from posting similar comments? It is no surprise to me that countries have tried to block a lot of YouTube content because of both the videos it shows (sometimes racist or filled with slander) as well as the responses to these videos in text or video form. This I will delve into deeper later in this project.
