Ive been seeing a lot of people on here getting
stone chips especially on their hood, including me. The following is how ive gone about
fixing mine. I was very impressed with the results, its about 99% perfect. You would only
know about it if I told you it was there but other than that people don't know your car
like you do so they would not have a clue about it
What can and cant be fixed?
Ok, If you've got damage to the point where its caused a dent in the actually bodywork
than this isn't the solution. The chip that I tried this on was all the way down to the
metal, past the white undercoat. On a black car this looked really bad but its all fixed
now so I'm a happy camper
What you need?
a few tissues or napkins, very fine paint brush (I actually used a toothpick), touch up
paint, polish and wax, terry cloth, sticky tape.
1: clean the area where the chip is with just ordinary water, then dry.
2: Now what you have to do using the sticky tape is cover up the surrounding area around
the chip. I used about 8 pieces of tape all up. make sure you don't leave any area of the
top coat in the area around the chip exposed. What I did was put the tape at angels around
the chip so everything was covered up. the only exposed part should be the chip itself.
3: Get a brush or tooth pick and dab on the
touch up paint. The sticky tape will prevent paint from going everywhere and ruining your
hood.
4: Leave it to dry for about 2 minutes then wipe it off.
5: Repeat steps 3 & 4 another 2 times.
6: Now you should have a rough sort of patch. apply another dap of touch up paint but this
time don't wipe it off. Leave it for about 5 minutes then remove the surrounding sticky
tape carefully.
7: Now what you should have is a little blob that is easily visible but is smooth. Leave
it to dry for about an hour.
8: Get your polish and apply it to the terry cloth. Start to polish where the blob is.
What you will notice is the more polish you apply the lower the blob will become. Use
heaps of elbow grease in this process. You have to really work it down.
9: you'll probably have to repeat step 8 about 20 or 30 times until the patch is flush
with the cars surface. You'll probably also notice paint coming off on the towel. Don't
worry about this just keep polishing the area and it will be fine.
10: once your happy with how it looks get you wax and give it 3 or 4 coats. By the end I
could no longer even see where the chip was! I didn't know where to polish anymore!
Hope that helps!
