Student Councils

Lower School Student Council

The Lower School Student Council meets regularly. This organization is run by students from grades Kindergarten through four. One or two representatives are chosen from each class to serve for four month terms. They assist in planning and making decisions about Lower School activities.

Middle School Student Council

In the 2002-2003 school year, we set up a new approach to representation and responsibility within the Student Council. All Middle School students are members of the Council. Each grade elects two representatives for the Planning Committee. The Committee does the selecting and planning of programs and fundraisers throughout the year, involving the general student population in the actualizing of these plans. It is a structure without specific job designations, encouraging shared responsibilities rather than delineating tasks and pressures on a few students. This model seems to be working well; we plan to continue using it. Student Council seeks to involve itself with fun activities for its members as well as with serious fundraising projects in coordination with other organizations such as the Parents' Association of McLean School and various agencies in the greater Washington Metropolitan area. We have been quite busy this year with several community service activities and fundraisers aimed at helping a variety of population groups in our area.

Upper School Student Government

The Upper School Student Government consists of a president, a vice president in charge of the activity committee, a vice president in charge of community service (Service League), a secretary, and a treasurer, all elected in the spring. Class representatives are elected the following fall. The elected student leaders assist the administration in setting community tone and spirit.
